Department of Physics

COURSES PER SEMESTER

The Postgraduate program commences during the Winter semester of the Academic Year. The award of the Postgraduate Diploma (MSc degree) requires a total of ninety (90) ECTS credits. Degree requirements consist in the successful completion and examination in six (6) postgraduate courses and a postgraduate research dissertation in the third semester of study. The curriculum for each specialization is as follows:

  1. Specialization in the Physics of Materials. Students must take, during the first two semesters of study: Two (2) core courses, from among the five (5) core courses offered by the Department; two obligatory specialization courses; and two (2) specialization elective courses.

  2. Specialization in Nuclear and Particle Physics. Students must take, during the first two semesters of study: Three (3) core courses, from among the five (5) core courses offered by the Department, and which must include the two courses in Quantum Mechanics and Electromagnetism; three (3) specialization elective courses, of which, one must be either the course in Nuclear Physics or the course in Particle Physics, and two (2) other specialization courses, of which one may be from another specialization area of the postgraduate program in Physics.

  3. Specialization in Astrophysics. Students must take, during the first two semesters of study: Two (2) core courses, from among the five (5) core courses offered by the Department; the one (1) obligatory course of this specialization; and three (3) specialization elective courses, of which one may be from another specialization area of the postgraduate program in Physics.
