QUALITY ASSURANCE POLICY STATEMENT

The Department of Physics of the Faculty of Science of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) is committed to providing a high quality education for its students as well as to developing a productive research and work environment for its staff. The commitment of all members of the Department towards continuously improving the teaching-research work and the services provided is part of the chosen strategic approach for management and accountability.

The vision of the Department is to continue to serve educational, research, developmental and wider social objectives with a commitment to the principles of scientific ethics, accountability, sustainable development and social cohesion. The Department of Physics seeks international recognition and reputation through its excellent and modern education and scientific training of students, the academic and professional ethics of its graduates, the cutting-edge knowledge and know-how it produces, and the internationally distinguished scientific contribution of its teaching and research staff.

The Department of Physics has established and implements a specific quality policy, which is fully linked to the legal and regulatory framework governing the operation of NKUA and is in accordance with the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG 2015). In particular, for the implementation of this policy, the Department of Physics is committed to implementing quality procedures that ensure:

  • The appropriateness of the structure and organization of the curriculum.
     
  • The pursuit of learning outcomes and qualifications in accordance with the European and National Higher Education Qualifications Framework.
     
  • The high quality and effectiveness of its student-centered instruction.
     
  • The suitability of the qualifications of the teaching staff.
     
  • The promotion of the quality and quantity of the research work of its members.
     
  • Effective connections and links between teaching and research.
     
  • Matching the acquired qualifications of the graduates with those required by the labor market.
     
  • High quality for the support services such as administration, libraries and student care services.
     
  • The conduct of an annual review and internal audit of the quality assurance system of the Undergraduate Program, as well as the collaboration of the Internal Evaluation Team with the Quality Assurance Unit of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

Through the establishment, review, redesign, and redefinition of its quality policy, the Department of Physics is committed to achieving even higher performance standards.
