Course Content

  • Characteristics of the urban environment. The heat island and canyon effect on the energy planning of the built environment. 
  • The contribution of materials. Energy balance of materials and systems. The life cycle of materials. Building envelope.
  • Natural and mechanical ventilation of buildings. Indoor thermal comfort.
  • The heat island effect on buildings. Indoor solar and thermal radiation. Building envelope.
  • Indoor energy, environmental and thermal design. Optimization methods for the thermal and energy performance. 
  • Dynamic models of energy and environmental behaviour of buildings. Energy classification of buildings. Energy and carbon footprint of buildings.

Application: Experimental energy evaluation. Calculation of the building’s energy consumption and thermal behaviour under dynamic conditions.
