Course Content
- Superconductors of low critical temperature: Theory of superconductivity, Type I & II superconductors, Abrikosov vortex lattice, phase diagrams (H-T) of vortex matter, applications.
- Superconductors of high critical temperature: Chemical compounds of cupper oxides YBa2Cu3O7-δ and Bi2-yPbySr2.0Can-1CunO2n+4, properties of single-crystalline/poly-crystalline samples, synthesis/processing in poly-crystalline form of YBa2Cu3O7-δ with δ≈0.05 and Bi2-yPbySr2.0Can-1CunO2n+4 with y≈0.4& n≈3.
- Crystal structure: Diffraction from periodic crystal structures, investigation of a poly-crystalline sample YBa2Cu3O7-δ or Bi2-yPbySr2.0Can-1CunO2n+4 with X-Ray powder diffraction (XRPD) and with the Rietveld method: phase identification and determination of lattice parameters.
- Magnetic properties: Ac magnetic susceptibility (1Oe≤Ηac≤20Oe, 1Hz≤fac≤1kHz) of YBa2Cu3O7-δ with δ≈0.05 (Ηdc=0Oe) and Bi2-yPbySr2.0Can-1CunO2n+4 with y≈0.4& n≈3 (0Oe≤Ηdc≤1000Oe), phase diagram and underlying physical mechanisms.
- Electric properties: Resistivity (10μΑ≤Idc≤10mΑ) of YBa2Cu3O7-δ with δ≈0.05 (Ηdc=0Oe) and Bi2-yPbySr2.0Can-1CunO2n+4 with y≈0.4& n≈3 (0Oe≤Ηdc≤1000Oe), critical current, phase diagram and underlying physical mechanisms.
- Research report: Writing of a research report, formal presentation of the report in a seminar class.
