Course Content
- Introduction: Numerical integration. Solving ordinary differential equations.
- Solving partial differential equations: Initial value problems (thermal diffusion, wave equation, time-dependent Schrödinger equation). Boundary-value problems (Poisson equation, applications to electromagnetic problems, introduction to finite element methods).
- Monte Carlo methods: Integration. Simulations.
- Stochastic processes: Markov processes. Master equation. Applications of random-walk simulations.
- Stochastic differential equations: Fokker-Planck equation. Langevin equation.
- Metropolis algorithm: Ising model. Quantum Monte Carlo simulations. Finding the ground state of quantum mechanical systems. Phase space simulations.
