Course Content

  • Introduction to telecommunication systems.
  • Digital telecommunication systems. Digitization of analog signals: sampling, pulse shaping and pulse code modulation systems.
  • Pulse shaping, intersymbol interference (ISI), equalizers and matched filters.
  • Digital modulation techniques, geometric representation of digital signals and constellations (M-PAM, M-PSK M-QAM and M-FSK), error probability, union bound.
  • Fundamentals of communication channel modeling and link budgeting.
  • Filters and noise models.
  • Fundamental concepts for error analysis of uncoded digital communications.
  • Introduction to error correction techniques.
  • Detection techniques.
  • Linear Block codes
  • Cyclic Codes
  • Convolutional codes
  • Trellis diagram, Viterbi decoders
  • Non-binary codes (Reed-Solomon)
