Course Content

  • Introduction to mobile communications, definitions, historical overview of technologies, functionality
  • Cellular structure: Frequency reuse, One-dimensional cellular systems, Two-dimensional cellular systems, Channel assignment techniques, Interference and system capacity, Telecommunication traffic in cellular systems
  • General Principles of Radio Wave Propagation in a mobile communications environment: Power balance of wireless links from loss models, Outdoor - indoor models, multipath parameters, second order statistics.
  • Multiple access techniques: FDMA, TDMA, Spread Spectrum (FHMA, CDMA, Hybrid), SDMA.
  • 4th and 5th generation system architecture and technologies
