Course Content

  •  Review of principles and practices of sequential logic.
  • Timing analysis of digital systems, metastability and synchronizers.
  • Fixed-point number systems.
  • Using design techniques to increase testability and reliability.
  • Increasing digital system performance with spatial and temporal parallelism.
  • VHDL hardware description language for simulation and synthesis.
  • Description of digital building blocks in VHDL.
  • Architecture of ARM processors (instructions, symbolic language, programming, machine language).
  • Detailed ARM architecture processor design for the basic single-cycle and multi-cycle microarchitectures.
  • Performance and cost analysis of key microarchitectures.
  • Detailed design of IP cores and communication with host PC and VGA terminal for image data processing applications.
  • Using a Zedboard development board and verifying the correct design at the FPGA level
